Francis (Ken) was born in Toulouse, France to Marie de Lartigue Milliken, a French nurse, and John C. Milliken, a WWI veteran who met overseas during the War in Europe. Ken grew up in Little Neck, New York and spent summers on a farm near South Royalton, Vermont. He spent one year of college at Dartmouth before leaving to join the Navy in the spring of 1944, on his 17th birthday. He was stationed in the Pacific, first on a fleet tugboat and then in the Philippines where he was trained to pilot landing craft for beach assaults while also patrolling the coast. He completed his service to the Navy in 1946 after earning the American Theater Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Victory Medal.
Upon his return from the service, Ken attended the University of Maryland and was a loyal Terrapin throughout the years. There, while working at a sorority on the GI Bill, he met the remarkable and lovely Nancy, who became his true love, better half, and lifetime partner. They were married in 1953 and, after Ken earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Maryland, moved to the Detroit area. Ken and Nancy established residency in The City of Farmington in 1965, where they raised their four children: William, Jeffrey, Valerie and Charles.
Ken spent his entire working career with the Lincoln-Mercury Division of the Ford Motor Company in sales and training and retired as National Plant Distribution Manager, after more than 30 years. He supported the Boy Scouts of America with great enthusiasm. First as a District Commissioner before taking over as Scoutmaster of Troop 179 in Farmington at the request of the troops Board of Directors. The Troop remains one of the finest in the country. He volunteered helping people with financial issues and tax preparation as well at Costick Center. He passed away in his Farmington home in 2022, at the age of 95.
