Beautification Committee announces 2026 Plans, Including Gardening Event and Community Garden Enhancements
The City of Farmington Beautification Committee met recently and is pleased to announce several initiatives planned for 2026, aimed at fostering community engagement, enhancing green spaces, and supporting gardeners of all experience levels.
One of the committee’s first initiatives is the Get Gardening Kick-Off, an inaugural event designed to bring together first-time gardeners and experienced gardeners to share knowledge, resources, and inspiration. The event will feature a plant swap, educational and training sign-ups with the City’s trained Master Gardener, Heidi, and the official kick-off of the Annual Farmington Seed Growing Contest. Participants will be able to pick up sunflower and/or cleome seeds to begin the contest.
The Beautification Committee is seeking partnerships with local Master Gardeners and organizations interested in contributing through flower or seed donations or by attending the event to provide educational support. Interested parties are encouraged to contact the committee at beautification@farmgov.com.
The Get Gardening Kick-Off is scheduled for May 17, 2026, at 1 p.m.
In addition to programming, the committee is making improvements to the Community Garden, located off Farmington Road on Chelsea Street. Planned upgrades include the installation of numbered signs for each garden plot to improve identification, as well as on-site storage for tools and seeds donated by residents and committee members.
Residents interested in donating gently used gardening tools are invited to contact the Beautification Committee at beautification@farmgov.com. Tool pick-up will be arranged in the spring.
“These initiatives represent just the beginning of what we have planned for the year,” said the Beautification Committee. “Additional events and opportunities for community involvement will be announced in the coming months.”
