2025: A Year of Progress, Community & Connection in the City of Farmington

As we reflect on 2025, we’re proud of the many milestones that moved our community forward and strengthened the place we call home.

We kicked off the year with SiFi Networks laying fiber in city easements in front of EVERY home, a major step toward future-ready connectivity, but what an inconvenience at the time. Earlier in the year, we also kicked off the development of three master plans critical to the development of Farmington: The Farmington Master Plan, the Parks and Rec Master Plan, and the Downtown Master Plan. These were worked on throughout the year and are now in their final stages.... stay tuned.

In February, we celebrated the beginning of the Hillside Townes development, bringing new housing and new neighbors to Farmington.

May was full of exciting additions, including the arrival of a new Fire Truck to enhance public safety and two new outdoor fitness courts to support health and wellness in our parks. In June, we welcomed Clare Cooney as the new manager of the Farmington Civic Theater, continuing the theater’s tradition as a vibrant community arts destination.

Over the summer, Shiawassee Road was resurfaced, and we proudly recognized Cody Hawkins as Farmington’s Public Safety Officer of the Year. In September, Cody Hawkins was promoted from Sergeant to the rank of Commander; and Commander Todd Anderson was promoted to Deputy Director of Public Safety.

This fall, we launched a pilot Food Waste Recycling Program, installed new artwork in City Hall, and had the honor of hosting a delegation from Vacri, Italy, celebrating international friendship and cultural exchange. We also celebrated several well-deserved promotions within Farmington Administration and Public Safety, recognizing the dedication and talent of our staff.

All of this took place alongside our beloved annual traditions—Art on the Grand, Founders Festival, Harvest Moon Celebration, and the always-magical New Year’s Eve Skate. There were also MANY new businesses that opened in the community.

Thank you to our residents, staff, volunteers, and partners for making 2025 such a meaningful year. We’re excited to keep the momentum going into 2026!
